Common Issues

Below are some common issues that users may have and instructions on how to fix them.

1. Internet Cache Issues

The following instructions are the same for the two issues listed below:

1.      I get to the end of a scene and the Next button will not appear.

2.      My progress is not saving.

First, you will start-up Microsoft Internet Explorer.  Then you will locate the menu bar across the upper left side of the browser, as shown below.

You will then click on Tools.  This will then open a menu underneath Tools.  You will click on Internet Options.

The Internet Options window will now appear.  In the center of this open window is a section called Temporary Internet files.  You will click on Delete Files, located in this section.

Clicking on Delete Files will open the Delete Files window.

In this window, you will click on the check box next to Delete all offline content.  Then click on the OK button to close this window.

You will now return to the Internet Options window.  During this time, you will see a temporary hourglass  instead of the mouse pointer .  This hourglass will remain while the computer is cleaning out the Temporary Internet files.  Once the mouse pointer returns to an arrow , click on Settings, which is next to Delete Files.

The Settings window will now appear.

On top of this window is the section Check for newer versions of stored pages.  You will select Every time you start Internet Explorer

Then you will click on OK at the bottom of the screen.

The Settings window will close.  Now click on OK at the bottom of this screen to close the Internet Options window.

Lastly, restart Internet Explorer.

2. Excessive Text Size

Another common issue is the text on the screen is covering the Next button, not allowing the user to continue the course.  This larger text may also run off the page.

To adjust the text size, you will start-up Microsoft Internet Explorer.  Then you will locate the menu bar across the upper left side of the browser, as shown below.

Then click on View.  A menu will appear below View.  Click on the option for Text Size.

Another menu will appear to the right of Text Size.

Click on the option for Medium.  This will set the text size to the correct size.

To test to see if the text size is correct, watch the following text as you change the text size.  If the text is larger then the Normal text size image, you will need to adjust the text size to match the text size of the image.

If this text size is larger then the image to the right, you will need to lower your text size.

3. Student Registration Issues

When a student is registering for the first time, and gets the message Student Is Already Enrolled, they might be attempting to use a Student ID that has already been used.  To solve the problem, have the student choose another ID.

When on step 2) Authorization, the student gets the message: This tag has been used or is not valid. This means the registration tag has already been used, and the student will need another tag in order to complete their registration.

Note: Registration tags can only be used ONCE. Once they are used, they can never be used again.

When on step 2) Authorization, the student gets the message: Authorization is not valid. This means the registration tag has not been entered correctly. The registration tag MUST be entered EXACTLY as it appears when it is presented to the student.

For example:

If the registration tag is YourCompany-123456789

It MUST be typed in as YourCompany-123456789

Other variations, such as YourCompany - 123456789, YourCompany/123456789, Your Company-123456789, 123456789, etc. will not be accepted.

4. Prepare to Start Training Screen Issues

Question - After I select the course I want to take, I get to the Prepare to Start Training screen, but I have red lights and cannot proceed.

Answer – The Prepare to Start Training screen checks your system settings to make sure they are set properly prior to starting the training. If these settings aren’t set correctly, the program will not run correctly.

Below is an example of the Prepare to Start Training screen. If any of the six lights on the left is red , the computer image at 7) will be red , preventing you from running the course.

Here is a list of the 6 required components that are needed to run our software.
*Please note – to the right of each component is a Help button. Clicking on Help will give you information on why the component is red and how to resolve the issue.

  1. JavaScript 1.2 - JavaScript is a programming language in the browser. Our software requires version JavaScript 1.2. JavaScript 1.2 is provided with Internet Explorer 5.0 and up. If you get a red light, you either are using a lower version of Internet Explorer, or JavaScript was disabled.

  2. Course CD-ROM – This checks to make sure that you have the correct course CD-ROM in your CD-ROM drive. If you get a red light, clicking on the Check Again button will search for the CD-ROM again. If the light remains red, you either:
    1. Have the wrong course CD-ROM

    2. Have the correct course CD-ROM, but the wrong course was selected/enrolled in

    3. Have the correct course CD-ROM, but the disk is damaged

    4. The CD-ROM drive is damaged

  3. Cookies - Cookies are a temporary disk area of your browser that can be used to store information between screens. Cookies can only be accessed by the site that created them so if other information is stored in your browser cookies, this program cannot access them. No other program can access this information either. If you get a red light, then cookies are turned off. They then must be enabled.

  4. Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0/5.5/6.0 – Microsoft Internet Explorer® is the ONLY browser our software will run in. Our software will not run in Internet Explorer version 4.0 or lower, as well as other browsers, such as Netscape, Safari, Firefox or Opera. Microsoft Internet Explorer is provided with the Windows Operating System. If you get a red light, then you either:
    1. Are using an unsupported browser

    2. Are using secondary browser software, such as AOL or Yahoo. In these cases, you might need to connect to the Internet using this software. Once you are connected to the Internet, minimize your connection software and load the Microsoft Internet Explorer browser to take the course.

    3. You are using Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 beta. We do not yet support Internet Explorer 7.0 beta, but our software will run in it. If you get green lights for all other components, you may start the course.

    4. Microsoft Internet Explorer is not installed and needs to be installed

  5. Windows Media Player – Most of our software runs with Windows Media Player 6.4 or higher. Version 6.4 is provided with Windows 95, NT, 98, 2000 and ME. Windows XP is provided with Version 8.0, but should be upgraded to Version 9.0 or 10.0 because of some issues regarding graphics cards. If you get a red light, you either:
    1. Have a lower version of Windows Media Player and needs to be upgraded

    2. ActiveX controls are disabled, preventing the start screen from finding the media player

    3. You do not have Windows Media Player and needs to be installed

RealPlayer 8 / RealOne – Some of our older programs run with the RealPlayer®. If you are running one of those programs, you are required to have RealPlayer version 8.0 or higher. If you get a red light, then you are using a lower version of RealPlayer or RealPlayer is not installed and needs to be installed.

  6. Display 800x600/65,000 colors minimum – The minimum screen resolution for our software is 800x600. 800x600 or 1024x768 are two of the more common screen resolutions in the market. Your color settings need to be set to 16 bit or 65,000 colors or higher. If you get a red light, then either:
    1. Your screen resolution is lower then 800x600, most probably 640x480

    2. Your color settings are set below 16 bit or 65,000 colors
  7. The computer image will show if all components were not found or when all components were found. This signifies you are ready to take the course.

  8. When all components were found, you will get the message Click to Start Course. You can then click on the message to start the course. If all components were not found, you will get the message: STOP - all of the necessary components were not found. Please click on the HELP button next to the component for information on how to correct this.
